White Christmas

It was a white Christmas after all. After finally digging out, we started to enjoy our time off.

Our Christmas included a very nice, romantic weekend out in Salt Lake City.

We enjoyed lunch in Kaysville with family, followed by a trip to Salt Lake City. We checked into the Grand America, took Trax up to Temple Square to see the lights (very crowded, by the way), then enjoyed a fondue dinner at the Melting Pot (read the review). The meal included cheese fondue with breads, vegetables and fruits for dipping followed by the entrees of sirloin, shrimp, and vegetables boiled in a broth. For dessert we chose the milk chocolate fondue with fruits, marshmallows and brownies for dipping.

Completely stuffed, we made our way back to the posh hotel. Our room, decorated in muted tones of green, included chocolates on the pillows, and robes and slippers laid out for each of us, was a very elegant weekend away.

Sunday morning was spent watching the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performance. For lunch we overspent and overate the Sunday brunch at the Great America (read review), wandered around the hotel looking at all their wonderful furniture, art and sculptures.

Review - Lost Colony

I just finished reading "Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony." This, the fifth book in the series, was quite enjoyable. The 8th family, demons, were magically transported into limbo, a place where time nearly stood still. Now with the time spell unraveling, Artemis Fowl, Butler, Holly, Mulch, and Foley discover another child-genius who always seems to be one step ahead of Artemis. But the fate of the human and fairy world is at risk unless Artemis and company can prevent the time spell from unravelling.

It was a fun book, especially when our child-genius Artemis is confronted by an equal. Clearly fantasy, it is written for children (upper elementary grades). Its 385 pages but reads very quickly.

Now I am on to "Book of Fate" by Brad Meltzer. I'll report on it later.
