Autumn in Utah

This afternoon, Kent and I took a very pretty drive through the Alpine Loop. There is nothing to compare to the beauty of Fall in the mountains! The roads were narrow and windy but the scenes were breathtaking. A lot of people must of been thinking the same thing because the traffic was pretty heavy. Still, once again, "forest therapy" was a good thing.

Review - The Last Patriot

The book I finished the other day was actually one I had to buy! With so many books in the library, you think I could find one, but they were all packed away in boxes and not yet moved to the new library. So I broke down and bought another book. This one was The Last Patriot by Brad Thor. I've enjoyed his before and thought it would be a great read.

Scot Horvath has retired, or so he thinks until a bombing disrupts his vacation. He is quickly drawn into a Da Vinci Code-like plot where he discovers an ancient revelation by the prophet Mohammed will disrupt and nearly destroy the Muslum faithful, while some of the more radical elements in the faith will stop at nothing to stop the discovery from being made public.

There is ongoinbg action, a number of deep subplots but not really anything new that has not been done before. So now it's on to Damage Control by J.A. Jance (yes it's a library book)

Up, Up and Away

To celebrate Tyler's 12th birthday, we took him to Salt Lake City for a day on the town. It started off with a ride on the train, or Salt Lake valley's light rail system, TRAX.

We rode nearly the entire route, stopping short of the end to enjoy the new Clark Planetarium. It was here we took in the IMAX movie "Fly Me to the Moon." It was a clever little animated movie about three flies that stow away on the first flight to the Moon. I was hoping it would have had more science in it, but it was okay.

Then we made our way to the Melting Pot to enjoy a cheese fondue and a main entry of steak, shrimp, chicken, and a variety of vegetables. Then it was a ride home to enjoy a little visit with the rest of the family.

Tyler's favorite moments: Getting a gold dollar coin in the change machine at the TRAX station, blowing the steam from the cheese fondue pot, and the red potatoes in the fondue. It was fun to celebrate this momentous birthday with Tyler and his family.

The Media

Due to the impending opening of the library, the local press has been very interested in the progress. And since the local columnist lives in Highland, she is taking a little more interest than normal. I was interviewed last week and earlier this week the photographer came down to take pictures. I think things turned out okay. Here are links to the 3 articles:

And no comments about the gray hair!
