Cruise to the Mexican Riviera

We returned from another wonderful cruise this past week.  Went to the Mexican Riviera on the Crown Princess.   The first day included the plane trip to Los Angeles, and a 4 hour wait at the nearby Sheraton Hotel (that's were the cruise people take you if you come in early, before they start embarking passengers onto the ship).  Once we got on to our ship, we got settled in B301, and then headed to the mandatory "muster" drill....to make sure we knew where to go if there was an emergency.  After that was our first meal (one of many).

Our stateroom was nice and roomy!

Maybe the ship needs a new library director?

The center Piazza all decorated for Christmas.
Entertainment in the piazza.

Small lighthouse as we were leaving LA
First night, prime rib!

Days 2 and 3 were sea days.  We ate, took naps, ate, watched tv, ate, explored the ship, and just loved being on the ocean.

Sea day with beautiful ocean.

Day 4 was at Puerta Vajalla, Mexico.  We didn't have planned excursion but quickly found a local tour guide to show us the city.

We passed on the Octopus salad for lunch.

Many streets made of stone.

Mexico's version of "7-11" stores.

Iquanas are a popular family pet...eeks.
Pretty sunset outside our balcony.

Day 4 was to Matzalan, Mexico.  We planned a day long excursion here, touring many parts of the city.  As we got off the ship and on to our bus, we noticed "tram buses" that would shuttle passengers back and forth to the city.  We were impressed that they were wheelchair accessible.

Wheelchair accessible shuttles to get to town.

One of the places we went to was the coast area where we saw cliff divers.

Getting ready for his dive.

Mexico is trying hard makes things accessible.
Saw these stores in many places

What? $160 for ribs...Pesos that is.

Shrimp markets

There were many old churches and we were able to go inside one of them that was built in 1850.

On of our stops was to a hotel and beach area.  We had a pretty good authentic lunch there and watch a Mexican Folklore dance an singing show.

Balancing a candle while dancing.

Para-sailing on the beach

That night treated us to a very beautiful sunset.

 Day 5: Cabo San Lucus

We went to Cabo on Christmas Day.  We had to tender to the the docks in somewhat scarey little boats.  The boat we were on was a local one sent from the pier, not one of the ship's tenders.  It was a little rocky and you had to wait for just the right time to quickly hop on the boat before it went down 2 feet with the waves.  But, they were very helpful and loaded us and wheelchair without too much trouble.
Pretty sky coming into Cabo

Cabo's shoreline dotted with many, many resorts.

Once we got off the tender, we walked around the shoreline for a little while.  Being Christmas Day, not much was open.  Didn't want to miss the whale watching since December was the big time for whales in this area.  The bigger boats were already full but found a local company that was taking people out...the only boat available was a small glass bottom no bigger than your average rowboat.  The scenery was wonderful....the boat ride was little terrifying.  Saw whales, dolphins, sea lions, fish and lots of pelicans.

Cabo had beautiful rock formations

A old refurbished sandstone lighthouse.
It was only cloudy for a little part of the day.

Pelicans all over the place.

That night was a nice "formal night" Christmas dinner.  The food on the ship was pretty good with many selections.  Needless to say, we didn't starve on the trip.  The next day was a sea day and a great way to end our fun trip.  Here are a few last pictures.

Left us a small Christmas stocking with candy

All dressed up for Christmas dinner.

The table all decorated for Christmas.
Mother and son, Evelyn and Paul from California

A ship's favorite, Bake Alaska

Our favorite daily hangout, the ice cream parlor

Ship was so rocky the last day that they drained the pools.

Christmas sing-a-long
