Today is the 2nd day of our cruise, though Princess counts it as Day 1. This was the first breakfast on board. Princess has some nice breakfast options, including my favorite potato paddies. With a couple pieces of bacon, pastry and yogurt, its a nice was to sustain me until the next meal. But since food is served 24 hours a day, there is no need to starve.
At 10am we attended a "Meet and Greet." There are several travelers who had been communicating together online and have scheduled a time to get together and meet each other. This was followed by a gift exchange in which gifts were exchanged with each other in a game format. We drew numbers and as we progress through the numbers we can either select a gift from the unopened pile or "steal" a gift from others. But the gift can only be "stolen" a limited amount of times, so it becomes a strategic event as well. Others selected their gifts and I kept a sharp eye open for a prize I wanted to steal or to get a new one. Finally my turn cam and I stole a nice cooking apron. Since it had been stolen once before, it was safe from being taken from me. DeeAnn ended up with a set of Florida things, like playing cards, and a travel mug. We ended up contributing a Utah National Parks travel mug and a 2016 national parks calendar.
Gifts all laid out ready to be selected |
Not a lot of sunbathers yet but there will be |
"Knitters and Natters" was held each day at sea and DeeAnn attended most of them. She met some nice ladies and a couple of gentlemen and even picked up a couple of tips. We also attended a lecture on the Panama Canal but were disappointed in it. She decided to break the history of the canal into three lectures and todays was dealing with the portion when the French were building the canal. It was interesting enough but nothing new that I had not already read about.
Sea creatures abound |
It was our first "formal" night when we get a chance to dress up. But we were not impressed with the menu and decided to skip the formal night.
Sunsets at sea can be spectacular |
Time changed overnight.
Ship Log: Ships clocks were advanced one hour overnight to GMT-7. Overnight Island Princess passed parallel to the US Mexico border as we paralleled the coastline on the port side. Noon position: 29°41.4' N - 116°31.3' W. Temperature 20°C (68°F). Wind north westerly force 4. Barometer 1019.0. Sky: partly cloudy. Throughout the rest of the day we maintained a South Easterly heading paralleling the coast of Mexico on our port side.
