Today is December 30th. it's Monday, the 11th day of our cruise and 12th day of our vacation.
Today was in Maui, city of Lahaina. We waited for about 20 minutes for a tender, not too bad. Got to the island and walked around, seeing some of the shops.
View of the ship from the tenders, as we leave. Fascinating how the ship is designed for different kinds of docks, ports, tenders, etc. |
Tenders going ashore |
We found Hilo Hattie's where DeeAnn won a pair of pearls. They tried to upsell her to a $600 setting, then a $60 setting. Both were a little more than we wanted so she just bought the pearls for $8. We will find a way to get them in a setting when we get home.
Kent found the public library, which was closed the day we were there |
Bought a few souvenirs, then DeAnn went on a whale watching excursion (by herself). She found one that was very accessible. She said they wheeled her right onto the boat and found a good spot for her to watch. She saw at least 15 whales, including one with a 4 day old calf. She also saw a school of dolphins and some flying fish.

Dolphins along the ship |
Whales jumping in the distance. Whales are commonly sighted around Maui. |
I came back to the ship, after buying some pajamas for DeeAnn and another bright red Hawaiian shirt for me.
Ship from afar. It's huge! |
DeeAnn made it back to the ship about 2:30, and we had dinner with everyone. Everyone at the table except me had beef stroganoff. I had the Pasta again.
