Newport, Rhode Island
Lighthouse in the harbor at Newport |
Some kind of old fortress |
Definitely a seafaring port |
Sailboats and mansions in the background |
Our welcoming sign |
More mansions along the coastline |
Newport doesn't have water deep enough for ships to dock so they anchor offshore and "tender" the passengers on little boats to the shore. With 3100 people on board, this takes awhile and so we waited and waited and....But, during the wait they let us take a quick peek at the food galleys. Fun little tour in a area kept so clean you could eat off the floor. It started to rain so we didn't stay in the city for very long.
This is one of the tender boats used on the ship. |
Quaint little streets in Newport |
Newport Courthouse |
I guess Dad has a restaurant here, but it's closed. |
We miss the Seafood Festival by one day...darn! |
Our last dinner with our new friends.
Shirley (from AZ) and Cheryl (from CA) |
Mark, Dianna, and Bob from Philadelphia |
Vinnie and Marilyn from Stanton Island |
Last night's dinner of Turkey and trimmings |
And a very good baked Alaska for dessert! |
Our waiters Jesus and Dennis |
The night sky here was very pretty. |
More gorgeous sky. |
